Yeosu Designates Cebu, Philippines as the First International Sister City to
Participate in 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea
Held COP33 Attraction Activity and Exhibition Participation Signing Ceremony in Sinulog Festival
On the 20th, Yeosu (Mayor Jung Gi-myeong) announced that Cebu, Philippines, has become the first city to confirm participation in the 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea, among its international sister cities.
According to Yeosu, 4 delegation members, including Vice Mayor Choi Jung-gi, visited Cebu from the 16th to 20th, as a three-night and five-day trip. The delegation members met Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia and signed an agreement to participate in the 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea.
Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia stated, “Island is the common link that solidifies the friendship between Yeosu and Cebu. Since Cebu is also planning to host the island exhibition in 2027, we will actively cooperate for success of world’s first island exhibition in Yeosu.”
In addition, Yeosu delegation members participated in the Sinulog Festival, which is one of the three major festivals in Philippines, to promote 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea and COP33 (33rd Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC).
On the 19th, Yeosu delegation members met consulate delegation members, including Song Sae-won (Consul General of South Korea in Cebu), Zhang Zhen (Consul General of China in Cebu), and Hideaki Matsuo (Consul General of Japan in Cebu), to secure their active supports for the 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea.
In the meeting, Consul General Song Sae-won said, “We will use our human and material networks to encourage international interest in the 2026 World Island Exhibition Yeosu Korea.”
Consul General Zhang Zhen also commented, “We will try our best to promote the exhibition as many Chinese cities signed sisterhood with Yeosu. Consul General Hideaki Matsuo said, “As an island country, Japan is deeply interested in the island exhibition. We promise to promote it actively.”
Vice Mayor Choi Jung-gi stated, “We hope that Cebu’s official announcement to participate in the island exhibition will encourage other countries for participation. We will continue promotional activities and strengthen international cooperation to enhance global participation.”
